V.F.W. Model Aviation Club -- 1930
Biography of Carl Hopkins

Possibly the original group that formed the predecessor to CMAC

The Clarksburg Model Airplane Club was founded in 1930 by Carl Hopkins, with a grant from the W.P.A. It was charged with providing a focus for the youth of the Clarksburg area to get them off the streets and out of trouble. The club has numbered many flyers over the years that have competed at national events. Currently we have three members who were around at the start of the youth movement of the 1930's.  They are Robert J. Bates (AMA 17486), M.G. Nicholson, Jr. (AMA 2681) and C.R. Reeves (AMA 4139). The Clarksburg Model Aviation Club has gone through many changes in its orientation over the years, but has always stayed close to its original goal of providing an outlet for the youth of the Clarksburg area to have a worthwhile hobby. At this time we provide a program to the public schools in the tri-state area called "get sky high on model aviation". Through public relations, appearances and building classes, we do our best to further the sport of model aviation in the central West Virginia area.
